Functional Capacity Evaluations

Functional Capacity Evaluations (FCE) are a valuable tool in assessing an employee's safe working limitations following an injury or prior to employment. The physical capabilities assessed during the FCE can be directly matched to the essential job functions to determine whether an employee can perform their job safely with less chance of injury.

Our FCE uses psychophysical, kinesiophysical and biophysical methods for determining functional capacities. The psychophysical method allows the patient to select the appropriate weights on different tests based on their perception of pain, effort, anxiety and physiological stress. The kinesiophysical method allows the evaluator to assess body mechanics, movement patterns, facial expressions and changes in the velocity of movement to assist in determining the appropriate weight for each activity. The biophysical approach correlates test results to determine reliability and validity of test results.

Job Site Evaluations

Our uniquely-designed program entails specific programs / exercises that help an employee regain pre-injury competence, increase endurance, and help reduce the likelihood of repetitive movement injury. Our industrial program web site can be located at when an employee incurs a disabling injury, it is imperative to get proper medical attention, as well as determine the cause of the injury and take steps to prevent future problems. It is also important to transition the employee back to work as quickly and safely as possible.

A jobsite assessment is a systematic, detailed approach to identifying risk factors that could be contributing to workplace injuries. Once risk factors are determined, we will recommend practical, cost-effective interventions that will help prevent injuries and increase productivity. A jobsite assessment also aids the therapist in devising a plan of care for a patient. Rehabilitation activities can be geared specifically to job demands the patient will encounter when returning to work.

Neurological Rehabilitation

Neurological rehabilitation involves injuries, diseases, and problems related to the central nervous system. In physical therapy, we work to achieve maximum independent levels of function through strengthening, range of motion, coordination and balance training as well as functional activities.

Pediatric Rehabilitation

Pediatric rehabilitation refers to rehabilitation of very young children or those up to age 18 with neurologic diseases, injuries or problems. It requires special training to assess a wide variety of problems such as muscle weakness, muscle tightness, balance and coordination issues, somatosensory integration, motor planning and more. These issues must be addressed in physical therapy in a playful manner according to age to ensure the child's cooperation and interest.

On-Site Work Rehabilitation

Orthopedic Physical Therapy

Orthopedic rehabilitation encompasses a wide range of injuries and problems involving the joints, muscles, tendons, ligaments, bones and peripheral nerves. In physical therapy we work to resolve pain, limited motion, gait problems, weakness, loss of function, and to prevent recurrence.

Pre & Post-Natal Care

Being uncomfortable during and after pregnancy is normal. However, there are ways to reduce discomfort using proper body mechanics and patient aids.

Spinal Rehabilitation

Spinal rehabilitation refers to problems with your neck or back. It is a subspecialty of orthopedics and should be treated as such. Because of the unique structure of the spine and special problems related to this area, specialized training is necessary to ensure appropriate treatment.

Because the majority of problems are mechanical, relating to specific activities, postures, and habits of the patient's lifestyle, a mechanical solution is necessary. A thorough evaluation will be performed to identify movements, positions, and activities that aggravate the condition as well as those that will decrease symptoms.

Sports Medicine

Athletic injuries are essentially orthopedic injuries which have a sport specific component. Our goal for the athlete is to return the patient to the sport quickly, while preventing re-injuries through proper warm-up and training procedures. Our program is uncommonly effective, helping return patients to previous levels of sports activity through exercises for the trunk, upper, and lower extremities and back.

Work Hardening / Work Conditioning

Work Hardening utilizes exercises and work-related activities in an organized program to recondition injured workers and facilitate a safe and timely return to work. Work hardening improves productivity, lowers hiring and training costs and reduces the potential of re-injury through job specific conditioning.

Work conditioning is a comprehensive treatment program designed to restore an individual’s physical strength and functional capacity for safe return to work. The results of the individual's assessment are used to design a progressive plan of care, plan for discharge and return-to-work strategy.
